The interim government's Energy Adviser, Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan described the proposed national budget for the fiscal year 2025-26 as a "distinctive and corrective" one. According to him, this year's budget is designed to minimise irregularities and curb unnecessary expenditures.
Speaking at a post-budget press conference on Tuesday afternoon at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka, he said, "This is not just a routine budget—it is aimed at addressing inefficiencies and reducing waste. We fully support the decision to lower LPG gas prices."
He added, "We are also taking measures to reduce extortion in the transport sector. Today we received reports of excessive fares being charged to people travelling to their villages. We are already taking action to address the issue."
Highlighting the difference between past and present governance, Khan said, "What sets us apart now is that we are operating collectively, with a structured approach. Several templates have been developed, and we are working together to institutionalise them."
The press conference was attended by several key figures, including Education and Planning Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud, Home and Agriculture Adviser Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Commerce, Aviation, Textiles and Jute Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin, Cabinet Secretary Sheikh Abdur Rashid, Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Ahsan H Mansur, and NBR Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan, among others from the financial sector.
