Dhaka air 'very unhealthy' on Friday morning
Dhaka again topped the list of cities worldwide with the worst air quality with an AQI of 239 at 8:24 am on Friday (Feb 16).
According to the air quality index, Dhaka air was classified as “very unhealthy” with an AQI between 201 and 300.
An AQI between 151 and 200 is considered “unhealthy” On the other hand 201-300 is considered “very unhealthy” and 301+ is considered “hazardous,” posing severe health damage to residents.
Accordingly, Pakistan's Lahore occupied the second, India’s Delhi occupied the third, in contrast Kolkata and Iraq’s Baghdad stood third and fourth and fifth spots on the list, with AQI scores of 223, 219, 199 and 187 respectively.
World Health Organization (WHO) says, air pollution kills an estimated around seven million people worldwide every year, mainly due to increased mortality from stroke, heart disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, lung cancer, and acute respiratory infections. The organization is working with countries to monitor air pollution and improve air quality.
