Garment workers are staging protests on the Dhaka roads since Thursday morning demanding an increase in their wage structure and its implementation.
Workers from Kalshi area of Mirpur in the capital took to the streets and blockaded Mirpur-Airport road, halting the traffic movement.
Pallabi Police Station Inspector (Operation) Imranul Hassan Prince said that garment workers from 22-storey garment factory, standard garment and other factories were protesting on the main road of Kalshi since the morning.
Vehicular movement has been halted due to protests by the workers, he said.
Additional police personnel have been deployed to bring the situation under control, he said adding that senior police officials are trying to discuss with the workers for resolving the issue.
Contacted, Pallabi Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Syed Nazrul Islam said the workers of some garment workers were staging protests on the main roads of Kalshi and Shewrapara since the morning.
Severe traffic gridlocks were created from Mirpur-10 to Farmgate areas of the capital, he added.
