Following the breakdown of ceasefire negotiations, Israel has launched a renewed and devastating offensive in the blockaded Gaza Strip. Under the pretext of eliminating Hamas, relentless and brutal attacks continue to target the territory's civilian population, with increasing intensity fueled by US support.
The death toll continues to mount, with the latest wave of violence claiming the lives of another 37 Palestinians, including women and children, on Tuesday (March 25).
Local sources reported drone strikes in Khan Yunis and air raids on the Bureij refugee camp, resulting in multiple casualties, including a child. The death toll from earlier strikes in Jabalia, northern Gaza, also rose to eight.
Israeli Strikes Extend to Syria; US Continues Yemen Bombardment
On the same day, Israeli forces extended their military operations beyond Gaza, conducting airstrikes in Syria that killed at least six people.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) claimed the strikes in the southern Quneitra region were a response to gunfire directed at their troops, although it remains unclear whether Israeli forces were inside Syrian territory at the time. Meanwhile, in Yemen, the United States, Israel's closest ally, has continued its bombing campaign.
This ongoing action is in response to Houthi rebels' threats to disrupt Israeli shipping in the Red Sea until the aggression in Gaza ceases.
Houthi-affiliated media reported multiple US airstrikes in the Saada province, a stronghold of the rebel group, adding to the already significant civilian casualties reported since the US military intensified its operations in Yemen on March 15.
Over 40 Lives Lost in Gaza and Syria; Humanitarian Crisis Deepens
The combined Israeli attacks in Gaza and Syria on Tuesday resulted in the tragic loss of at least 43 lives, further exacerbating the already dire humanitarian crisis in the region.
International aid organizations, such as Save the Children, have expressed grave concern over the escalating violence, reporting that over 270 children have been killed in Gaza in just one week since the renewed Israeli offensive began.
The Gaza Health Ministry states that over 50,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 113,000 injured since the conflict began in October 2023, while the government media office in Gaza suggests the actual death toll is likely much higher, with thousands still trapped under the rubble.
The failure of ceasefire talks and the subsequent intensification of military actions by Israel and its allies continue to cause immense suffering and loss of life in the Middle East.
