Former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly was involved in a car accident while travelling to Bardhaman. Fortunately, no one was injured in the incident. Indian media outlet Anandabazar confirmed the news.
According to reports, the accident occurred on Thursday (February 20) when Ganguly was on his way to attend an event at Bardhaman University.
The incident took place at Dadpur on the Durgapur Expressway when a lorry attempted to overtake Ganguly's convoy, forcing the driver to apply sudden brakes. This led to a chain reaction where the vehicles behind his car collided, with one of them hitting Ganguly's vehicle.
A police officer from Dadpur station informed Anandabazar that Ganguly's car was not damaged, and he remained unharmed. Two other vehicles in the convoy sustained minor damage, but all drivers and passengers were safe.
Following the incident, Ganguly had to wait by the roadside for about 10 minutes before continuing to Bardhaman University, where he attended his scheduled program.
At Bardhaman University's Golapbagh Campus auditorium, Ganguly interacted with students, answering their questions. He also visited the Mohun Bagan Field at the university before heading to Bardhaman’s Radharani Stadium, where he was honoured by the Bardhaman Sports Association.
Expressing his gratitude, Ganguly said, "I am truly overwhelmed. It feels great to be in Bardhaman, and I am even happier to have received this invitation. The Bardhaman Sports Association has been requesting me to visit for a long time, and I am glad to be here. The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has collaborated with the Bardhaman Sports Association for 50 years, producing many talented players. I hope to see more players emerging from this district in the future."
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including District Magistrate Ayesha Rani, District Council President Shyama Prasanna Lohar, Vice-President Gargi Naha, Superintendent of Police Sayak Das, and officials from the district's sports association.
