On Monday (March 24), Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) Ziadur Rahman of the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court issued the order.

The hearing was initially set for the submission of an execution report on the arrest warrant against Shakib. However, as he is currently abroad, the plaintiff requested the court to seize his assets. After reviewing the request, the court approved the order.

Earlier on January 19, the court issued an arrest warrant against Shakib Al Hasan in the case and later directed authorities to submit a report on its execution.

The case originated on December 15, when Sahibur Rahman, a public relations officer at IFIC Bank, filed a lawsuit against Shakib and three others over check fraud allegations. On that day, the court summoned all four accused to appear in court.

The next hearing was scheduled for January 19. On that day, Imdadul Haque, a director of Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm Ltd, appeared in court and applied for bail on Shakib’s behalf. However, Shakib and the company’s Managing Director, Gazi Shahagir Hossain, failed to appear.

Following their absence, the plaintiff requested the court to issue arrest warrants against Shakib and Gazi Shahagir. The court approved the request. It was also informed that another accused, Malaika Begum, had passed away. The court then directed the officer-in-charge (OC) of the concerned police station to submit a report confirming her death.

According to case documents, Shakib serves as the chairman of Shakib Al Hasan Agro Farm Ltd. In 2017, the company took a BDT 15 million (1.5 crore) loan from IFIC Bank’s Banani branch but failed to repay it on time. The bank issued a notice demanding repayment.

In response, Agro Farm Ltd provided two checks amounting to BDT 41.4 million (4.14 crore) on September 4, 2023. However, both checks were dishonoured due to insufficient funds. The bank subsequently sent a legal notice demanding payment, but as the company still failed to settle the dues, IFIC Bank filed a case against Shakib Al Hasan and three others on December 15.
