The Ministry of Youth and Sports has officially dismissed Faruque Ahmed from his position as President of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), according to a government notification issued on Thursday night (May 29).

With his removal, the BCB presidency is now vacant. Discussions are already underway regarding potential successors, with former national team captain Aminul Islam Bulbul emerging as a strong contender for the role.

This development follows a letter submitted on Wednesday by eight BCB directors to Sports Advisor Asif Mahmud, accusing Faruque of authoritarian behaviour and requesting his removal.

The letter was signed by directors Nazmul Abedin Fahim, Mahbub Anam, Fahim Sinha, Saiful Islam Swapon Chowdhury, Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, Kazi Inam Ahmed, Manzur Alam, and Mohammad Salahuddin Chowdhury. However, former captain Akram Khan did not sign the letter.

It is worth noting that Faruque Ahmed was appointed BCB President following the fall of the Awami League government. In August 2024, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina fled the country amid mass student protests, triggering sweeping changes across various government sectors, including the cricket board.
