Former Bangladesh national team captain Aminul Islam Bulbul has been elected the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). His appointment follows a dramatic shift in the country's cricket administration amid broader political changes.
On Friday, May 30, the National Sports Council (NSC) issued a gazette nominating Aminul as a BCB director. Later that day, he was elected president through a direct vote by the board directors during a meeting.
Aminul, Bangladesh's first-ever Test captain, brings significant experience to the role, having previously worked with the International Cricket Council (ICC) in its game development division.
His election follows the ousting of former BCB president Faruque Ahmed, also a former national captain. Faruque had taken over the board's top position just nine months earlier, after being nominated as a BCB director by the NSC in the wake of political upheaval that saw the fall of the Awami League government. That transition occurred after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina left the country amid mass student protests over quota reforms in August of the previous year.
However, on May 29, the NSC revoked Faruque's directorship following a no-confidence motion from BCB directors, making him ineligible to continue as president.
With Aminul Islam Bulbul now at the helm, Bangladesh cricket enters a new chapter under the leadership of one of its pioneering figures.
