Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus has directed the launch of Starlink's satellite broadband internet service in Bangladesh within the next 90 days.
According to a statement from the Press Wing on Tuesday (March 25), the Chief Advisor issued this directive to the relevant authorities.
The statement further mentioned that while Starlink used a foreign satellite broadband gateway during its trial phase, the company will comply with the NGSO policy and utilize a local broadband gateway or International Internet Gateway (IIG) when providing commercial services in Bangladesh.
On March 23, Chowdhury Ashiq Mahmud Bin Harun, Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), announced in a press conference that Starlink's internet services will officially begin in the country from April 9.
Earlier on March 8, Fayez Ahmed Tayeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor on Telecommunications and Information Technology, stated that a Starlink delegation was visiting Bangladesh. During this visit, the company signed agreements with various local institutions to facilitate the rollout of its internet services.
