Students call class boycott Wednesday to meet their demand

The agitating students have called for countrywide class boycott on Wednesday to press home their eight point demand following death of a student in a road accident at Kuril Bishwa Road area in the capital.

Student of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) Maisha Nur declared the new program while talking to the newsmen.

Maisha Nur said, our agitation will continue from Wednesday morning. We are urging all students of the educational institutions to boycott classes on Wednesday and to express solidarity with us through taking position in front of their institutions.

Maisha Nur also said that their movement is the continuation of last year’s road safety movement and it will continue until demands are not met.

Mentionable, Abrar Ahmed, a student of BUP lost his life while crossing the road as a bus ran over him. The BUP students stood away from the spot of accident after staging daylong protest and demonstration. The student declared to resume their movement on Wednesday at 8 am.

The eight-point demand placed by the students-

1. Transport sector have to be made free of political influence. Necessary papers including licenses of bus drivers have to be checked in every month.

2. The detained driver and other associated have to be brought under punishment as soon as possible.

3. Vehicles without fitness certificate and drivers without license have to be removed from Tuesday.

4. Underpass, speed breaker and foot over bridge have to be made in all risky and necessary places.

5. The people involved in road killing have to be brought under extreme law.

6. Necessary steps have to be taken for stopping reckless driving and for setting up bus stops and passengers’ shade.

7. Have to start half fare and separate buses for students.

8. Permanent removal of persons from administration and police for negligence of duties.
