President Mohammed Shahabuddin today paid homage to the valiant freedom fighters of 1971 at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar, on the occasion of the Great Independence and National Day.
After laying a wreath at the monument, located on the outskirts of the capital Dhaka, the President stood in solemn silence for some time to honor the memory of the heroic martyrs of the Liberation War.
A smartly turned-out contingent drawn from the Bangladesh Army, Navy, and Air Force presented a state salute during the ceremony.
Following the President, the Chief Advisor is scheduled to pay respects. Subsequently, the Bir Sreshtho (the highest gallantry award) families, wounded freedom fighters, and other freedom fighters, led by the Advisor on Liberation War Affairs, will lay floral wreaths.
Later in the day, foreign diplomats, various socio-political organizations, and people from all walks of life will also place wreaths at the memorial to pay their respects to the martyred freedom fighters.
Additionally, floral tributes will be offered at memorials in districts and sub-districts across the country. National flags will be hoisted, the national anthem will be sung, and rallies and parades of students from educational institutions will be held at the national, divisional, district, and upazila levels nationwide.
