A new student organization is set to be launched today, Wednesday (February 26), initiated by former coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement.
The organization will officially be introduced at 3 PM at Madhur Canteen, Dhaka University, confirmed Al Mashnun, a student associated with the new group.
According to sources, the organization will not be affiliated with the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, the Jatiya Nagorik Committee, or any political party. It also pledges not to engage in affiliated or patronage-based politics, nor will it function under the agenda of any “mother organization” or external political party.
The organization's primary source of funding will be monthly contributions from its internal members, with the possibility of donations from well-wishers if necessary.
Leaders of the new student organization express their commitment to addressing gender inequality in mainstream politics, creating an environment for political engagement, and making the political system more inclusive and women-friendly to ensure equal opportunities for all, regardless of gender.
The central convener of the new student organization is Abu Bakar Mazumdar, a student from Dhaka University's 2019–20 academic session. During the student uprising, he was a frontline coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and previously served as the Member Secretary of Ganotantrik Chhatra Shakti’s Dhaka University chapter.
Abu Bakar Mazumdar stated,
He further added,
"There are discussions about forming a new political party, but it is not related to our organization. Our leadership selection will follow a bottom-up democratic process, and financial activities will be managed through internal contributions."
Sources also indicate that Abdul Kader, the proclaimer of the ‘Nine-Point Declaration’, is being considered for the Dhaka University convener position of the new organization.
Regarding organizational structure, Kader stated,
"The maximum age limit for the central committee is 28 years. No one above this age will be allowed in the central leadership. For university units, membership will be permitted from admission into honors up to a maximum of seven years. In essence, this organization is exclusively for students."
