The new political party Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) has been officially launched, with Nahid Islam, a frontline leader of the July Movement, as its Convenor and Akhtar Hossain as the Member Secretary.
On Friday, February 28, during an evening event at Manik Mia Avenue in the capital, Mim Akter, the sister of martyred Md. Ismail Hasan Rabbi, formally announced the party’s name.
Following the fall of the Awami League government due to student-led protests, two youth-driven organizations—Jatiya Nagorik Committee and Anti-Discrimination Student Movement—emerged. These two groups have now united to form the Jatiya Nagorik Party.
The party’s key leadership roles include:
Chief Coordinator: Nasiruddin Patwary
Senior Joint Convenor: Samanta Sharmin
Chief Organizer (Southern Region): Hasnat Abdullah
Chief Organizer (Northern Region): Sarjis Alam
Joint Coordinator: Abdul Hannan Masud
Office Secretary: Saleh Uddin Sifat
Inauguration Ceremony
The launch event began at 4:15 PM, starting with a recitation from the Holy Quran, followed by readings from the Gita, Tripitaka, and Bible. The national anthem was then performed.
A minute of silence was observed in remembrance of those who lost their lives in July and August, followed by prayers in accordance with different religious traditions.
