4 dengue patients die, 207 hospitalised: DGHS

Dengue has claimed four more lives in the last 24-hour period when hospitals around the country admitted 207 new patients.


Of the new cases, 57 were hospitalised in Dhaka city, while 150 were admitted to hospitals outside the capital, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in a regular update on Wednesday (Dec 20).


The death toll from dengue soared to 1,692 and the total number of patients has risen to 3,19,878, the DGHS said. This year, 3,16,889 patients were released from hospitals after they recovered.


A total of 1,297 dengue patients, including 417 in the capital, are now receiving treatment at hospitals across the country.


In September, the DGHS reported 79,598 cases, including 396 deaths, the highest in a single month.


According to DGHS, Bangladesh reported 101,354 dengue cases in 2019. In 2020, it confirmed 1,405 cases, while the number rose to 28,429 in 2021. Last year, Bangladesh saw 62,382 dengue cases.
