Foreign Minister focuses on bilateral trade restoration with Myanmar

Foreign Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said that discussions are being held to enhance diplomatic relations with Myanmar so that bilateral trade could be restored between the two neighbouring countries.


The announcement was made during a briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday (Jan 23) following his participation in the NAM conference.


Minister Mahmud said that Myanmar's foreign minister has expressed interest in the repatriation of Rohingya refugees.

Discussions were also held regarding the restoration of Bangladesh-Myanmar trade to its previous state.

During the briefing, the foreign minister shared that he received assurance regarding the request to fill the post of Special Envoy of Myanmar.



Dr Hasan Mahmud also mentioned that the UN Secretary-General has extended congratulations to the Prime Minister.

The UN Secretary-General commended Sheikh Hasina for her efforts in poverty alleviation and championing women's rights.

Minister Mahmud also disclosed his upcoming plans, stating that he will embark on a tour on the 7th at the invitation of the Foreign Minister of India.
