The Appellate Division has suspended the High Court's verdict that cancelled the government's decision to issue appointment letters to 6,531 candidates who passed the recruitment exam for assistant teacher positions in government primary schools in the Dhaka and Chattogram divisions.
This order was issued by a three-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Senior Justice Md Ashfaqul Islam, on Monday (March 3).
Previously on February 18, the High Court had cancelled the recruitment decision and scheduled a hearing for March 2 on a petition seeking to suspend the verdict.
The chamber judge of the Appellate Division, Justice Md. Rezaul Haque, passed the order. Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman represented the state, while senior lawyer Zainul Abedin argued for the petitioners.
On February 6, the High Court ruled to cancel the recruitment of these teachers and ordered a fresh hiring process based on merit. The verdict was delivered by the High Court bench of Justice Fatema Najib and Justice Mahmudur Raji.
The final results of the third phase of recruitment for assistant teacher positions in government primary schools in Dhaka and Chattogram divisions (excluding three hill districts) were published on October 31, 2024. A total of 6,531 candidates passed, and the results were announced on the website of the Directorate of Primary Education.
