BNP's Acting Chairman, Tarique Rahman, has alleged that a conspiracy is in motion to undermine national unity and disrupt the electoral environment.
Speaking virtually at BNP's extended meeting on Thursday (February 27) at 11 am, held in the field adjacent to the LD Hall of the National Parliament Building, he urged everyone to stay vigilant against such attempts.
"Under the pretext of reforms and local elections, confusion is being spread among the people," he stated.
Tarique Rahman further expressed concerns about the country's current state, saying, "The law and order situation still seems to be beyond the control of the interim government. Misleading statements from certain advisors are confusing freedom-loving citizens, while crime and violence continue unchecked. The government has failed to establish control and is also unable to curb the soaring prices of essential goods. Holding local elections before the national election will only worsen the situation, and the public sees this as an attempt to destabilize the country further."
Addressing the interim government, he said, "There are growing doubts about the government's neutrality. I urge the interim government to withdraw its plan for local elections before the national polls. Maintain neutrality and present a clear roadmap for the future."
He also warned, "Those who once aimed to turn this country into a submissive state are still conspiring. Holding local government elections ahead of the national elections is nothing but a strategy to rehabilitate the allies of fallen autocrats. BNP will not fall into this trap."
Lastly, he called on BNP leaders and activists at all levels to remain united and prevent any internal divisions.
